The "white gold" factory of the Marquis Carlo Andrea Ginori was founded in 1735 in Florence Italy, and first produced majolica and porcelain. In 1747 there were just two kilns in operation but by 1887, there were fifteen kilns and 1,200 employees. in 1896, the company merged with Milanese ceramics manufacturer Augusto Richard who already owned many ceramics factories in the north of Italy. And so Richard-Ginori was established. Growth was intense under the artistic direction of Gio Ponti, and by 1930, there were 40 kilns and 2000 employees.
