Pink or Red Amaryllis. Our beautiful glass ornaments are crafted by hand using traditional, old-world methods. Molten glass is carefully mouth-blown into finely carved molds. Then a hot solution of liquid silver is poured inside. The ornaments are hand-painted and glittered in a series of labor-intensive steps to achieve the beautiful finished creations. Produced in limited quantities and imported exclusively by the Merck Family's Old World Christmas, each is a treasure to cherish.
Beginning as a jewelry designer in Manhattan, Jay Strongwater got the idea of taking peices of jewelry and incorporating them into picture frames, creating "objects of desire" for the home. Now, years later, these "jewels for the home" constiture a large collection of items ranging from the smallest of boxes to tables, screens, and lamps. Most of the work is done in Cranston, RI, one time capital of America's costume jewelry industry. Elaborate enamelwork is paved with brilliant Swarovski crystals, in metal shaped like birds, bugs, reptiles, flowers and assorted jungle beasts. All the pieces are handmade.
